Employing a trainee
is an excellent opportunity to:
✓ Engage and support the next generation
✓ Receive incentive payments
✓ Start the training process early
Incentives
- Learn more about the incentives here.
- Talk to your preferred Apprenticeship Centre (ASSN) for more details regarding incentives available for the employer and trainee/apprentice
- Trainee/apprentices who are under 25 years of age can receive fee free training - saving up to $2188.80. (Australian Apprenticeships)
Requirements
Commitment to providing the trainee with 15 hours of paid employment per week and release them for regular paid study time. This can be negotiated at the sign up between the service, the student and the college. CAECE recommends 1-2 hours study time per week for satisfactory progression.
Traineeship & Apprenticeship Myths
"Trainees and apprentices are on a lower wage"
FALSE!
You can pay your trainee or apprentice at full pay - this can be offset by the incentives.
"I have to give my trainee/apprentice lots of paid study time"
FALSE!
We support services and students in allocating their study time, some students need more time, and some need less. We negotiate this at the time of the sign up for what is best for the student and the service.
"I have to pay the student’s contribution fees"
FALSE!
If the student is under 25, there are no contribution fees. However, if they are over 25, the employer is responsible for paying contribution fees for apprenticeships only. If eligible, this can be offset by the sign up and completion incentives.
